DC METRO RELOCATION

Metrorail: DC Metro, or Metrorail, offers a convenient way to get around the DC Metro area. The DC Metro system is the nation’s third-largest and the nation’s second-most utilized transport system. It is administered by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), which also operates Metrobus service.

The closest Metrorail stations to the Holiday Inn Washington, DC are the, Dupont Circle Metro (0.49 mi) on the Red Line, Farragut North Station (0.55 mi) on the Red Line, and the McPherson Square Station (0.47 mi) on the Orange and Blue Lines. Capital Bikeshare: The District’s bikesharing program makes bicycles available to anyone. Simply take a bike from one of over 165 stations in DC and Arlington, and return it to a nearby docking station. The closest docking stations are located at 15th & P Street, NW and 14th & Rhode Island Avenue, NW. We believe that environmental sustainability means good business! That’s why the Holiday Inn Washington- Central/White House is proud to participate in “green” practices in the hospitality industry.

While utilizing sustainable practices in certain aspects of our operations, our environmental focus is on the areas of Recycling and Conservation (through waste and consumption reduction). Below are a few examples of everyday practices that showcase our commitment to sustainability… across departments of our hotel.

Recycling

  • Our kitchen and pantry are equipped with a grease trap to collect and dispose of grease-waste on a regular basis
  • Our coffee cups and and plastic cups are made from recycled materials
  • We ensure that all light bulbs, batteries, and electronic equipment are recycled properly
  • Our trash bags are bio-degradable
  • We provide recycling bins in all “back-of-house” areas for all team members to recycle appropriate materials
  • Our toilet paper and Kleenex are made from recycled paper and is dye free

Conservation – Consumption Reduction

  • Housekeeping team ensures that all lights and televisions are turned off in all guestrooms
  • Our kitchen team ensures that our dish washing machine is clean and that the wash, rinse, and sanitize arms are free from lime buildup
  • We ask all meeting/banquet clients if we can use pitchers of filtered water instead of bottled water
  • We participate in the Water Saver Program in which guest has the option to re-use the same towel during their stay and sheets are changed every two days during a guest stay unless otherwise requested.

Conservation – Waste Reduction

  • We will be adding an electric car charging station to our premises by July 2012
  • We have implemented a linen and towel re-use program
  • Our team encourages guests and clients to use double-sided copying at a reduced two-page cost
  • Our administrative team has stopped printing daily reports, equaling an annual savings of paper equivalent to 20 miles
  • We encourage guests/clients to send proposals, marketing materials, and contracts electronically
  • We use fair trade coffee which is rainforest alliance certified

Family Vacations in Washington, DC- Holiday Inn Central

Coming up with a vacation for the family can be complex and time-consuming; making sure that are activities for everyone to enjoy. Kids love the high-speed elevator at the Washington Monument, and especially the Lincoln Memorial, where you can rent a paddleboat for a small fee and take in the monuments from the water of the Tidal Basin. The Martin Luther King Memorial, most recently unveiled memorial, is also a wonderful site to visit. The Smithsonian offers free admission to the National Zoo and many of their museums.

Other than the beautiful monuments and museums, Washington, DC offers the opportunity to enter new worlds in the same city! Such as China Town, located east of downtown Washington, DC between H and I Streets and 5th and 8th Streets, NW. Washington, DC’s Chinatown is a small historic neighborhood with approximately 20 Chinese and Asian restaurants and a handful of other small businesses. The Friendship Arch, a traditional Chinese gate, prominently marks the neighborhood at H and 7th Streets. Georgetown. Georgetown is a vibrant community with upscale shops, bars and restaurants along its cobblestone streets. Many of the homes along the tree-lined streets are 200 year-old restored row houses with beautiful gardens.
